IN CHARACTER
Name: Sideswipe
Canon: Transformers: Robots in Disguise
Canon Point: Post episode 21, "Lockout", but before 22.
Age: Teens, mentally. Exact age unknown.
History: Link!
Personality:
Sideswipe is basically that guy. The confident, daredevil athlete kind of guy. Old enough to know better, young enough to be overly eager to impress. And completely convinced he's pretty darn awesome – mostly. He isn't 100% blind to his faults, but it takes a sudden, dramatic event for him to actually realize they exist. This has a tendency to make him come across as a careless, self-absorbed jerk. Especially to anyone in a position of authority. He plays up the confidence as much as possible, and, truly, there are things he is very good at – and he knows it, too. So it isn't hard for him to act like he's The Best Around.
Which is partially due to his immaturity, and lack of real-world experience. Often, he tries to compensate for this lack of experience by acting tougher, more confident, than he actually is. And it tends to backfire about as often as you'd expect. Sideswipe is definitely the "Leap Before You Look" type of guy, acting and speaking without thinking about it almost daily -- almost no brain-to-mouth filter here.
He's excitable, which might contribute to the lack of critical thinking. Just like any teenager, really. Which is a huge part of who he is. He's a young kid with powerful friends who wants to join in on the excitement he sees in media. To be as "awesome" as his role models, downright rebellious to any authority figures he doesn't idolize and who may or may not have grown up on his own.
He has a big heart, despite the cocky exterior – never afraid to make friends with anyone who gives him a chance. As long as someone shows more signs of leniency than they do antagonism or authority with him, he'll probably want to hang around them more often – and probably remain fiercely loyal to those friends for as long as possible. This... “nougat center” is probably the largest contributing factor to his lack of experience. He seems as if he doesn't really want to physically hurt anyone unless absolutely necessary, which runs directly counter to his “tough hooligan” exterior.
On the flip side, not all of him is teenage pride and arrogance. He has at least one deep-rooted, albeit sort of irrational fear, according to canon -- immobility, or, possibly, captivity. He claims it's the only thing he's actually afraid of, but who knows if that's just him being a show off, or if it's true.
Abilities/Skills:
Sideswipe has zero magical or special powers. All he has is speed. He is very fast. He's got halfway decent skill with a sword, but it's probably easily matched by someone older, and more experienced. Sideswipe is agile, too, jumping around through trees and doing various acrobatics along with his sword fighting. He likes to think he's good at video games, but that remains to be seen.
Strengths/Weaknesses:
STRENGTHS: speed, agility, loyalty, stubbornness.
WEAKNESSES: dancing, lack of strength (for a Cybertronian anyway), critical thinking, stubbornness, naming things.
Items:
- One (1) magic sword. Okay, so in canon they call it a "Decpticon Hunter", which is apparently Transformers speak for "special sword that can actually hurt bad guys". But other than that, it really doesn't have any special properties.
- One (1) MP3 player, robot sized. With headphones.
